Google and Lenovo partner for first consumer-ready Project Tango smartphone
At CES 2016, Google and Lenovo have announced plans to team up to create the first consumer-ready smartphone featuring Project Tango technology. The smartphone is still in the prototype phase, the image below shows off renderings of what the phone may end up looking like when it’s ready for consumers.
For those unfamiliar with what Project Tango is and does, Project Tango technology gives a mobile device the ability to navigate the physical world similar to how we humans does. Project Tango brings a new kind of spatial perception to the Android device platform by adding advanced computer vision, image processing, and special vision sensors. In short, Project Tango is an project that adds depth as well as a bunch of sensors to your device’s camera to capture world around it like we does as a humans.
Some Main features that Project Tango come with ( Source :- Google Officials )
Depth sensors can tell you the shape of the world around you. Understanding depth lets your virtual world interact with the real world in new ways.
Project Tango devices can use visual cues to help recognize the world around them. They can self-correct errors in motion tracking and relocalize in areas they’ve seen before.
Motion tracking allows a device to understand position and orientation using Project Tango’s custom sensors. This gives you real-time information about the 3D motion of a device.
So, How it works????
An infrared camera and infrared emitter act as a range-finder to measure the distance between your phone and various objects, It helps to be mapped it in three dimensions. A wide angle camera adds details about the location, and other phone sensors including accelerometers, gyroscopes, and barometers combine to help Tango calculate not just what type of objects around your phone or tablet, but also the angle at which you are looking at an object, Distance between them and you, and the shape of it.
What We can do with this:-
In Iron Man movie, Tony Stark says,” Jarvis, scan this map in 3-Dimensional view ” and then Jarvis Scan that Full map and create a exactly same copy of that map in 3D view virtually. Here, we are talking about exactly that type of technology and Project Tango is also able to create 3 Dimension views virtually.
Example :-
Google’s software allows a room to be mapped with your phone or tablet precisely. Imagine you see a refrigerator you like at an auction. With a Project Tango device, you’ll have the dimensions of your kitchen on hand, and, after mapping the fridge on the fly, you’ll be able to see whether or not it’ll fit in your dining room.
You’ll even be able to see how that fridge looks in your kitchen before you get it there.
Google is also working on it’s individual Tango tablet and smartphone. we found this images in google search :

We can say that, this Project Tango is game changer project for Google.
